Wu-Tang Clan - edition of 35
I started this concept in a very Killer Bee-centric headspace, and the whole thing just blossomed into something much bigger. A single bee started morphing into a tiger’s face during the sketching process, and the puzzle pieces of designing a piece of art started falling into place. You can really feel the martial arts cinema influence in the way all the shapes align here.
In the bottom-left corner, you’ll see a small portrait of Latrell Sprewell with the title “Protect Ya Neck.” Initially, I thought I would illustrate an NBA player in each corner who I felt best represented the spirit of some of the band’s best tracks. I was thinking about Oakley, Rodman, Mason, Artest… maybe Iverson, too. I had a list, but I got cold feet, knowing that this could greatly slow down the approval process.
Sprewell is my guy, though. Now and forever.
