Arctic Monkeys - MSG
I always wanted to make a print for a band headlining Madison Square Garden... it's nice that it happened. My thought on the image relates to their new record and how its got a sexy, after midnight type vibe. The image of the lips eating the sun is a comment on consumerism and celebrity. The sun is a representation of a famous person (a star).
This imagery also serves as a subconscious parallel to the Rolling Stones iconic lips logo... whether they know it or not. For me, it's the definitive band logo and what I first associated rock and roll with.
There's also a clear spot varnish in the background that's printed on top of the whole print to add an extra layer of decadence.
NOTES: 18 x 24 inches /// 5 screens /// signed and numbered edition of 250 (numbers 1-175 sold at show) /// holofoil variant to 22 /// February 8, 2014 at Madison Square Garden
